Hello November! As the smell of pumpkin spice and cinnamon fill the air, November is the perfect month to reflect on the year and give thanks for all of the wonderful blessings we have. Veterans Day is just around the corner on November 11, so be on the lookout for various events throughout Military City USA to honor the men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces who protect and keep us safe.
November has a full month of fun Newcomers activities to enjoy! Our directories are out, so if you haven’t gotten yours at a coffee or luncheon, reach out to Margaret Kidd to get one. There is also an online version on our website, NewcomersofSanAntonio.org in the Members Corner with the password Welcome1819.
This month, our luncheon is on Thursday, November 7, at the beautiful Grill at Leon Springs, a restaurant we all enjoy. Remember, the cost of the Luncheons will be increasing to $35.00, starting this month. Our organization can no longer afford to lose money on these popular luncheons every month. The price increase is permanent to keep up with the times. 2014 was the last time the price increased, which was five years ago. One suggestion has been to explore more soup, salad, or sandwich options rather than the three-course meals to help keep costs down. Most restaurants charge a 20% tip and then a service charge ranging from $150 – $300. Our ladies in charge of the Luncheons work diligently to find new and exciting venues for us that are also cost-effective.
I look forward to seeing y’all at our monthly luncheons and coffees, and Interest Group events. These smaller groups are the best way to get to know our members and learn your way around San Antonio. They will get you out and about and will help get you to become more involved in book discussions, the arts, needlework, games, films, wine tasting, and much more. The Interest Groups and their leaders are listed in the directory, but please check our monthly newsletter for current details and contacts.
Thanksgiving Day will be a time for family and friends to gather and share all of their memories of the year. With Thanksgiving being so late this year, we will have to get a jump on that Christmas shopping.
Happy Thanksgiving, and if you are traveling…safe travels.
