October hopefully will be cooler for us to get out and enjoy the outdoors in our city and the surrounding area. Did you know that we have a rich German culture in this part of Texas? Look for the numerous Oktoberfest’s in various towns around us, and the big Wurstfest in New Braunfels. You can visit a different one almost every weekend to enjoy food, drink, music, and shopping. It is also National Pizza and Popcorn month. After indulging in all that delicious food and drink, in honor of National Cholesterol Month, get your Cholesterol checked! 😂😂
A big thank you to all our Interest Group Leaders who were able to showcase their activities and gave all a chance to sign up at the September luncheon. It was a great turnout. Coming up our October luncheon will be held at the Petroleum Club.
In October, Newcomers of San Antonio highlights our Community Involvement. It is wonderful that so many of you want to give of your time, talents and treasure to our new city. Our charity again this year is “Soldier’s Angels”. It is a national charity providing aid to the service population. Many of you have asked for more “hands on” opportunities, and we have found it. This charity provides that for so many of us, you can go when you want and stay as long as you can. Soldiers Angels is so grateful for our help. Besides it is fitting that we assist this charity because San Antonio is known as “Military City USA”. Newcomers have put together care packages, made blankets, visited the VA Hospital, and packed goods to send overseas to our soldiers during the past year.
Also “Mobile Loaves and Fishes” continues to need our help once a month on the 3rd Wednesday of each month and the 5th Wednesday when the month has them, to pack and distribute lunches to the downtown homeless. Donations any of the following items are needed: toiletries, men’s underwear and t-shirts, socks, backpacks and used sneakers.
Please see the newsletter for more information about both of these worthy causes.
Thank you for your generosity and willingness to contribute to our community.
Your President, Sue Ellen
